Description:

Bringing San Joaquin County Historical Society & Museum’s Educational Offerings Online In the Face of the Pandemic

Problem: Prior to the start of the COVID-19 lockdown, the San Joaquin County Historical Society & Museum relied on networking and word-of-mouth advertising to communicate its educational offering and conduct its in-class Trunks program — an immersive experience where students learned about the County’s history with in-person displays. With concerns about the pandemic rising and the future of the Trunks program in question, the Museum needed to bring its educational offerings online.

Solution: Working with Museum leadership, I built a website that paralleled what students would learn during the Trunks program through subject-focused pillar pages.

Within the scope of the project, we developed exhibits that both served students and educators. Exhibits are free for public viewing while educator resources are behind a membership gate as a means of email harvesting.

Once the website was designed, we used email and the Museum’s existing social network platforms to publicize the launch.
